Starz has released its first poster and teaser trailer for its new series Ash vs. Evil Dead. The show will star Bruce Campbell reprising his role as Ash Williams. 30 years has passed since the events of Army of Darkness, and Ash has spent his time avoiding responsibility, maturity and the evil dead. He is forced back into his chainsaw – brandishing hero role when an infestation of Deadites emerges. He must face both his personal and literal demons. The original Evil Dead series began with The Evil Dead back in 1981. It was meant to be a serious horror film, but with its sequels – Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness – the series became  less of a spine- tinglingly horrific film to a more slapstick gorefest. The films were never rated very highly, but they’ve always had their cult following, which gained enough supporters over the years to have a remake of the original happen. It’s unclear if 2013’s Evil Dead will be a reboot of the entire franchise, but it did return Evil Dead back to its traditional horror film roots.

I’ll proudly say I’m part of the Evil Dead cult and have been since I was little. I saw the original Evil Dead when I was about 9 and was terrified by it. Since then, I’ve come to love the over the top campiness and disgustingly delightful gore that Evil Dead represents, not to mention Bruce Campbell’s Ash who has become an icon of horror films up there with Freddy, Pinhead, and Chucky. The remake Evil Dead was one of my most anticipated horror films of all time. I’ve come to hate horror films due to the lack of adrenaline – filled scares, overly predictable jump moments and their recent slant towards high – school angst to push narrative like Ouija and Unfriended. Unfortunately, stupid people keep giving stupid film studios their stupid money so these stupid film studios will keep making stupid horror films. Stupid.
